Register below to access Module 1 of the Certified Healthy Building Professional program and earn 1 Formal CPD Point.

This introductory module provides an overview of the CHBP framework and allows participants to assess its relevance to their practice.

1 Free Formal CPD Point

The Certified Healthy Building Professional (CHBP) program is a structured professional education pathway focused on recognising, assessing, and managing health risk in the built environment.

This free introductory module gives architects and building professionals a clear, evidence-based foundation in how exposure pathways form within buildings, and how routine design, specification, and construction decisions compound to affect occupant health over time.

The module qualifies for 1 formal CPD point and acts as the required entry point to the full CHBP program.

Learning Focus

This module introduces key concepts that are increasingly relevant to architectural practice, including:

  • How building materials contribute to chemical exposure indoors

  • The relationship between moisture, mould risk, and building assemblies

  • Indoor air quality as a design and systems issue, not a post-occupancy add-on

  • The role of building biology principles in supporting informed professional judgement

  • Where regulatory compliance ends and health-informed decision-making begins

The content is evidence-informed and framed to support practical application in real projects across residential and small-scale commercial contexts.

Learning Outcomes

After completing this module, participants will be able to:

  • Apply knowledge from the history and theory of architecture to preliminary design research and conceptual design, with specific consideration of health risk, material behaviour, and environmental performance.
    (Aligned with PC25)

  • Integrate principles from building science, environmental science, and related behavioural considerations into early-stage design thinking to better understand exposure pathways, indoor environmental quality, and project performance.
    (Aligned with PC28)

  • Evaluate and integrate material selection and building systems decisions established at the conceptual stage into detailed design thinking, with attention to constructibility, documentation, and downstream health impacts.
    (Aligned with PC39)

CPD Pathway

  • Free Introductory Module:

    • 1 Formal CPD Point

  • Full Certified Healthy Building Professional Program:

    • A further 5 CPD points available upon enrolment and completion

The full program provides deeper coverage of material health, moisture risk, indoor air quality, and health-informed specification, supporting architects who wish to build internal capability in this emerging area of practice.
